Growth charts

James had made growth charts for Lila and Teddy years ago.  He'd started two for our boys, but never quite got around to finishing them (plus, the wall was working just fine!).  Prompted by our repainting of said wall and the arrival of baby #3 for Brian and Rebecca, it was time to revive the project.  

The woodworking is the easy part of this project.  It's hugely time consuming to measure, mark, tape, and paint the board itself.   It's not one of those projects where doing multiples takes only a little bit more time, either. 

Shepherd was pretty excited to help open his present.  As soon as it was open, he tried to back himself up to it to get measured.  Brian and Rebecca said he's seen his siblings get measured often enough that he knew exactly what it was!

 

 

Desks

James reached a stopping point in his latest woodworking project. He built each of the boys a new desk. Ultimately, there will be a small hutch on top of each. The kids have already settled into their new spaces though!

Brian had some Pottery Barn growth chart knock offs on his Christmas list. James put these together (and now I want two also!):

Project Complete!

James finished the final piece in our bedroom set yesterday. Now we have a bed, two nightstands, and a mirror that actually all match. (It only took almost 12 years of marriage!)

Latest woodworking project

James just completed his most recent project - an armoire/desk for him to use in the office. Maybe this will be the answer to our 10-year 'discussion' about where his stuff belongs :)

Parking garage

Last week, Rudy and I were studying the toy catalog and he was showing me what he wanted to put on his Christmas list. (I want dis. I have dat.)

He pointed out a wood parking garage for toy cars: "I like this." I said it looked pretty fun and that it was made out of wood.

"It's made out of wood?"
"Daddy make that! I help him." [said with great authority and finality!]

So, sure enough, when James got back into town this week, the parking garage was the first item on the agenda.

Latest project

We needed a more organized system for all of our paperwork and notes that accumulate around the door. James built this contraption - part white board, part bulletin board - to hold everything.
