Ohio visit - Sunset Cruise & Bonfire

Don organized a sunset cruise of the canals in Vermilion.  The weather only slightly failed us here, with a heavy cloud cover at the horizon preventing much view of the actual sunset.  Even so, it was a nice way to explore some of the gorgeous homes on the canal and a great wrap up to a family weekend.

The whole gang:

Bill invited us back to his rental cottage for a bonfire.  Everyone was pretty wiped by now, so we were there less than an hour.   It was enough to convince the kids that they were actually  tired!

Ohio visit - lunch in Norwalk

We left the pancake breakfast and headed to Aunt Jane and Uncle Jerry’s house for lunch.  We got to catch up with them, Aunt Elaine, Chris, Reanne, Kennedy, Vicky, and Teegun for the afternoon.  These city kids also got to visit Kennedy’s fair pigs.

Ohio visit - EAA FlyIn and Pancake Breakfast

Grandma volunteers to work every year at the Experimental Aircraft Association fly in and pancake breakfast.  She didn't want to miss out this year, even though her party was the same day.  She invited the whole family to the event, her treat!

This year, the EAA offered free flights to kids ages 8-17.  I was pretty jealous, since I've never flown in a non-commercial plane myself!  At first, the boys both said they weren't going to do it.  We didn't really give them a choice; by the time came to board, they were fighting about who would be the co-pilot!

Ohio weekend, Saturday evening picnic

Mom and Dad drove to our house Friday evening and then we left Saturday morning to drive to Ohio for the weekend.  James was already up there for a business trip, so spent the night at Aunt Elaine's Friday night and caught up with us at the hotel Saturday evening.  

The official party for Grandma's 95th birthday was going to be on Sunday.  We rarely see many of these family members; since everyone was in town, we met at a park for a picnic Saturday evening.  The weather was perfect - not too hot or humid and with a light breeze to keep the bugs away, so it was a pleasant evening.
