This weekend was one big birthday celebration! Sunday was James' birthday. We went to the river in the morning to play, and then had steaks for dinner. James wanted a cake with cream cheese frosting, so he got the usual carrot cake. Unfortunately, Brady had some sort of fever; he fell asleep around 5:00 so he missed dinner and cake :(

Sunday Fun Day
Fathers day and James' birthday fell on the same day this year, and we still had family around from Rudy's party. We took our time getting the day started, and just hung out at home and let the kids play for a while...
Then we headed down to the river. The dogs got to swim and Rudy got to try out his new remote control boat.
Crazy looking caterpillar...

First swim meet!
The boys are both doing swim team for the first time this year. The first meet was tonight and Brady decided he was going to compete. (After a successful mock meet last week, he was feeling comfortable with the whole idea.) Rudy wasn't quite ready to sign up this week, but has already agreed to swim next week.
A few pointers from Miss Renee. We found out when we got there that Reagan and Brady were swimming in the freestyle relay for their age groups, even though they'd never practiced a relay before!
Warm ups...
Team cheer...Brady looks so little!
Ready to swim:
Brady swam three events: 100M freestyle relay, 25M freestyle, and 25M backstroke. He was beyond thrilled that he was the heat winner for the freestyle; after that he was even a little disappointed that he was second in his backstroke heat. I think final times are posted tomorrow, so we'll have to update again soon!
UPDATE: Brady finished FIRST place in his age group for freestyle!! His time was 25.47. He was third in backstroke, with a time of 31.82. He can't stop grinning!

The quality is obviously not great, and you may want to mute your sound...but I caught a few videos of his events...
Best art project EVER
All you need for this project? Broken crayons (we had plenty of these come home from school), canvas, and a heat gun or hair dryer. The boys had a blast and worked on these for almost two hours!
