Snow Baseball

We took advantage of the warmer temperatures last weekend to play outside. The boys did a few sledding runs, captured the monsters in the snow mountain on the street, and played snow baseball.

Rudyisms, old ones

2009

Rudy: What does a squirrel do when he wants a walnut?
Kelly: Don't know, Rudy. What does he do?
Rudy: Climbs up in the tree and gets it.

Rudy: What does a monkey do when he wants a walnut?
Kelly: What does he do?
Rudy: Climbs up in the tree and gets it.

Kathy, inquiring about Crabby and Pinchy: are they the same age?
Rudy: Yes.
Kathy: Are they twins?
Rudy: No, they're crabs!

James, leaving the science center: Rudy, did you like the big dinosaurs or the little dinosaurs?
Rudy: No. (not rude, just sayin...)
James: Do you like big dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: Do you like little dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: How about medium dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: How about tiny dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: How about extra large dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: You don't like ANY dinosaurs?
Rudy: No.
James: Oh. That's too bad because I like dinosaurs!
Rudy: Me too!

Rudy: What does a dog do when he wants a dougnut?
Kelly: What does he do?
Rudy: Climbs up in the tree and gets it!!

[Note that is pretty much how I heard that joke too. He asked me about the squirrel and the walnut, and then the monkey and the walnut. Then, about an hour later, apropos of nothing, he randomly asked me about the dog and the doughnut!]

An old one, from March 2008:

Kelly was cleaning upstairs and had a pack of diapers by the stairs to go down. When she and Rudy went to head downstairs, the diapers were strewn all down the staircase.

Rudy, pointing at the 'mess': Uh ohhh.
Kelly: Did you do that?!?
Rudy:
Nooo. Bubba.
Kelly: Brady did that?
Rudy: Noooo. DAAADDDEEE!
Kelly: Daddy made that mess? [Daddy was at work!]
Rudy: Yeah!

Now what?

We've gotten so much snow that we have to keep getting more and more creative with our activities.

Snowman? Check.

Igloo? Done.

Snow cream? Check.

Baking cookies? Check and double check!

"Meatball" in the snow? Yup.

Video games and board games? Check. Check.

Snow football? Check.

Sledding jumps? Done.

"Snowboarding" on the sled? Done. No pictures though...better try it again!

Creative sledding? Check.

Hopefully all of this new creativity doesn't lead us to the ER in the midst of the next snowstorm!

Nana's visit

Kathy braved the frigid temperatures and squeezed in a visit between (during) two of our 'blizzards'. The boys were so excited to see her!

Really? More snow?

We got another snow-whammy this weekend. This one was "mild" - only a foot or so (compared to the TWO feet before Christmas)! And the crazy thing? We have another snow predicted for tomorrow night!!

Kathy was planning to fly in for a visit this weekend. She managed to rearrange her flight to come in before the storm started.

SnowBowl

Some of our neighbors organized a touch football game yesterday. Brady was thrilled to be able to play with his dad!

Basketball game

We made it to our first ever college basketball game. I didn't get any pictures, but Brady was totally into the game. He would tense up whenever someone would take a shot, and then flail wildly if our team scored.

Rudy was less interested in the game, but enthralled with all of the music and other stuff going on. He even got his groove one during one of the songs:

Yet another snowstorm...

So, I've lost track of what number snowstorm this is for the winter. We're up to at least 3 major storms, and another one or two smaller flurries.

Our cowboy snowman:

Cindy, Bella, and Ben came up for some sledding. We added a jump to our hill this time.

Bella and Brady:

Brady and Ru:

Brady, headed for the jump:

Bella, not quite clearing the jump:

Brady getting some air:

Bella, apparently about to belly flop!

Oops...(that's Brady's face planted in the jump)

Kelly and Bella:

Rudy and Ben:

Fun in the "sun"

I ran upstairs to flip the laundry and get dressed around 10 am. I came back down and found Rudy sound asleep on the couch. I guess that's what happens after several days of sledding!

And, to make it all even more exciting, our power went out. Thankfully, it was only out during daylight hours, and only for one day.
