Cruise - Day 2 - Half Moon Cay

I was up early this morning, ready to get this vacation started! I was at the gym and done in time to watch the sun rise from the deck!

By the time I got back to our cabin, everyone was starting to stir. Notice the bunk bed, just above the head of the regular bed. We thought it was going to be terribly claustrophobic, but it wasn't bad at all. It actually helped, because James and I could read with the bedside lamps without the lights keeping the kid in bed awake. Most nights, one boy slept 'upstairs' and the other slept in the pullout sofa in Oma and Papa's cabin.

Today's port was Half Moon Cay, an island privately owned by the cruise company. The weather was a little iffy - just barely warm enough to swim in the water, which was just barely warm enough itself! The beach was pretty, though, and the weather was mostly sunny. We were pretty much wrapping up our day on shore when an afternoon rainstorm blew in and we tendered back in the rain.

Not sure what Rudy is doing in these pictures!

He sure is happy to be at the beach!

They had a few waterslides on the beach, and some water trampolines too!

The lollipops, only slightly smaller...

Headed back to the boat...

From the boat, looking toward the beach:

We were back on the ship early-ish, so we spent some time at the pool:

Brady got a little chilly, so we did some more exploring...

That night was the first formal night at dinner. We made a pretty fine looking crew, and the kids even behaved as good as they looked!

Poor Rudyman, taking his nearly standard-for-vacation dinner time nap. He fell asleep mid-coloring, right on the table...

We woke him up to eat dinner and kept him entertained with another small toy (a build-your-own-monster truck).

Cruise - Day 1

Today was the big day! We've been looking forward to this cruise for months! We embarked in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon, to start a 7 day adventure on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

There was no danger of starving on this cruise. There was food available all the time (literally) - room service, cafeteria, dining room, pool grills...the kids even dared to try some crazy new foods: Thai, Indian, and even escargot!

Big smiles from Lila at lunch:

Still in port - looking out the back of the ship:

Checking out the basketball court:

Ready for dinner. For the dining room, the boys had to have slacks and collared shirts (except on formal nights, when it was coat and tie!).

Oma had a giant bag of tricks, with a new toy every night for dinner...

In the art gallery. The boys thought these chairs and the table, made from bicycle wheels, were pretty cool!

The atrium. The chandelier is the New York skyline, complete with the Statue of Liberty!

Lila, absconding with my purse:

Brady's first chess game. He almost beat James!

Dessert #2: hot chocolate, brownies, and ice cream:
