We had a very rare Sunday afternoon free. We wanted to do something fun, but no one quite had it in them to find (and do) a hike. None of us had ever been to Petersburg, so we made the trip. It was pretty interesting, and I think it gave the kids some context for some of what they've learned about the Civil War. We all thought it was fascinating to see the crater and learn about the tunnel the Union tried to build to get into the Confederate garrison.
