We had been looking forward to this vacation for a LONG time. I had booked it way back in the spring, when I half-jokingly suggested to James that maybe we needed a beach vacation. I suggested it in the midst of a particularly busy time at school and work for him, and couldn't believe it when he gave me the green light!
On top of the school/work routine for him and the sports/school/chores routine for the kids, we were all feeling the need for sun and sand after the issues at the house. A little anxiety started the week before, when I checked the forecast and it looked like this:
Hope (foolishly?) prevailed, though, and we were still excited for a week in Jamaica. It was cloudy but not actually raining when we first landed.
As soon as we checked in, we changed into bathing suits and headed to the pool-side bar for lunch. I ordered "anything frozen and fruity" to drink; the waiter refused to bring James and boys the Sprites that they ordered. Instead, he showed up with non-alcoholic fruity drinks for each of them. The boys were sold! The rest of the week, they had a steady stream of Ziggy Marleys, pina coladas, daiquiris, and more. Brady actually counted...25 frozen drinks EACH during the vacation. Probably more sugar than they'd had in the entire previous six months!
After lunch, it still wasn't raining, but it also wasn't all that warm. The pool wasn't calling just yet, so we decided to explore the resort a bit. As soon as we found an open grassy area, the boys needed to shake out some of their energy with a family touch football game.
Over to the golf course. Check out those ominous clouds! We didn't wander too far, since the security guard was keeping a very close eye on us. We got the feeling that just past the golf course was a non-resort protected area that we'd be best not to visit.
Night time view from our balcony:
More fruity drinks. One apparently crashes, one apparently has a sugar rush!
