Mediterranean Cruise - Day 1, Arrival in Barcelona

After a change of clothes and lunch, we were all feeling half decent, so decided to skip a rest on board and head out to Barcelona instead.

We had lunch on board and then got our stuff together and headed out to walk the Ramblas.  We took the Port bus to the Christobal Colom monument then the metro up to the main square in Barcelona.  There was a huge department store and we bought some water in the basement grocery store (.36 for 1.5L - bargain!) and then headed down the Ramblas.  -James

We were all moving pretty slowly, definitely still dragging from the flight and lack of sleep, but still wanting to be out and exploring.  When we saw the kids really starting to drag, we started a trend that we sustained the rest of the vacation - gelato break!  It's amazing how effectively this treat can be at calming frayed nerves, energizing tired bodies, and eliminating grumpies!

We walked up the Ramblas.  There were little shops and these awesome statue guys who look like real statues.  -Brady

Admiring some of the architecture and Barcelona streetscapes:

Our dining time on the ship was at 5:45, so we wrapped it up in town in time to head back to port.  It was probably good timing, since trying to combine sightseeing with the lack of sleep would have ultimately ended poorly!

This sculpture is enormous - it spans an entire traffic circle.

Rudy, master of catnaps!  5 minutes is enough to completely re-energize this kid!

For dinner on the ship we had awesome prime rib with French onion soup and chocolate cake.  -Brady

Even after dinner, it was too soon for a reasonable bed time.  We took some time to explore the ship and check out the basketball court before collapsing in our beds.
