Of course it had to be Rudy who got stung by the jellyfish. Of the four of us, he is the one with the lowest pain tolerance and the most sensitive skin. After I dragged him through the water back to the pier, we packed up our gear and planned to head back to the boat. I managed to keep him distracted with various games - thumb wars, rock/paper/scissors, and trying to pull my fingers out of a fist.
Is this not about the saddest face ever??
James nicknamed Rudy jellybait hoo-ha-ha (similar to Nemo's "shark bait hoo-ha-ha" nickname in Finding Nemo). We tried to get a picture of Rudy's jelly fish sting in Olbia. Even three days later, it was still red and swollen.
This is now 5 days later in Palermo. Still itchy and red.
At least it was a cool jellyfish that stung him. James did some research and found out that it was probably a mauve stinger. The mauve stingers are bio-luminescent jellyfish. Apparently, in 2007, a TEN square MILE swarm of these guys wiped out 100,000 fish in a salmon farm in Ireland! Can you imagine 10 square miles of jellyfish?
